Hostal Girona

Hostal Girona is a family project of Lorenzo López, owner of this Boutique Hostel. ABAL Consulting has advised Lorenzo during the transition from a standard hostel in the center of Barcelona to a Bed & Breakfast Boutique concept. A transformation that has gone through a renovation that has respected the representative elements of this historic inn, a communication according to the concept of the establishment and an economic strategy that has allowed it to amortize all its investments and compete with the most modern establishments in the city.

The rooms that once made up this typical stately home in Barcelona’s Eixample district now house the rooms and common areas for guests who want to contemplate the legacy of the best Catalan architecture. Find out more here.

Problem

We had a centrally located establishment, with a lot of experience in one of the world’s leading tourism cities, however the property needed a renovation and a comprehensive proposal for redistribution to make a leap in quality in economic performance.

Solution

A reconstruction process that went through different phases during 3 years, being carried out during the low seasons. It was treated as a true “Re-opening”.

To offer a homemade experience it was necessary to offer breakfast service in a renovated, cozy common area, where each guest could start the day enjoying the essence of the city.

Problem

Offering only lodging limited us from making the leap in quality we were looking for.

Solution

Create a common space that could be used from the morning with a breakfast buffet until the afternoon-evening for the comfort of its guests. Maintain the essence and history of a traditional hostel in the center of Barcelona and turn it into a Boutique hostel capable of converting with the most modern establishments in the city. Now the Hostal Girona competes with other establishments with a more careful, personalized and higher category accommodation offer.
